My Southern Home

We've lived in this house for three years.  It is constantly changing and evolving.  Although I don't intend to use this blog as a platform to showcase my house, I have received a few questions about certain things in certain rooms....  and I have been known to stalk a Goodwill or two.  My husband and I went through Dave Ramsey's finacial peace about a year ago...  and we feel strongly that while our children are little {and destructive} that there is no sense into going into debt over trying to fill up our new house with a bunch of expensive fancy new things that will only be colored on, torn up, and kid-ified.  So most of the stuff that you will find in our house is either from Goodwill, Craigslist, or Garage Sales.  With a few exceptions, almost everything we own came very cheaply!  So let's begin!

On most days, our living room looks like this:
The entertainment center came from Craigslist for $150.00 and has been about four different colors I think!  The couch also came from craigslist and was FREE!!  The tables came from craigslist, as did the chairs.  I made all of the slipcovers thanks to some courage from Pink!
The plates on the wall were given to us on our honeymoon!  And the little white dresser came from Goodwill for $5.00!  I drastically changed it...  which I hope to eventually get around to making a post about...  but I don't aim to be a home remodeling blog.  The baskets in the dresser came from Walmart and holds all of our stuff for the Wii.
This is just a fun little piece that I found at a Garage Sale.  It has a chalkboard surface, and when we have guests over or birthday parties, we either write a message on it or let the kids draw!  Lately, it has served as a pretty good score keeper for wii games!
The tassel that hangs from the light...  thanks to The Nester who taught me how to make them!
Our living room is open to our dining room.  My husband says that this is one of a few pieces of "real" furniture that we own.  It came from Ashleyfurniture.com and is called Rowley Creek.

My husband made me this candle holder.  Inspiration came from Pottery Barn.
tassel love.
My entry.  It is hugely tall and I have never known what to do here really.  I have one really big grand idea, and I don't know if it will work.  Might be a good summer project.  It would involve wood.  Lots and lots of wood....  on the walls?
And here is our tiny master bathroom.  I don't know what crack I was smoking when we agreed to on this house.  2600 square feet, and this is the size bathroom that I have to deal with.  So last year, I made the best of it, and painted it, and put up some pretties on a shelf.  There's not much we can do with it, other than just deal...  *sigh*
...and take baths.  lots and lots of bubble baths!
Here is what we call our "family" room, cause it's really where the family spends most of our time.  It is open to our kitchen, and has a TV in the corner.
This table is one of the most special things to us!  A dear family friend made it for us.  My husband and I went to high school together, and the wood used to make the table came from the bleachers at the football stadium from our high school.  It is huge and rustic, and I love it cause the kids can bang it up and it doesn't look any different!  The couches here came from a local furniture store that was going out of business!  Our 2nd piece of "real" furniture!
This hangs above the doors in our dining room.  The old window came from a garage sale, and I made the vinyl lettering with my cricut!
This is my next project {as you can see the different colored paint on the top left}!  We found it on the side of the road...  not kidding!  It didn't have a top, so my husband used some stained fence pickets!  We hope to stain the top a little darker and make it a little glossier.  I thought I would like the green - but I'm thinking I might try either creme or black to match the table.  Not sure yet!
This little bench used to be a headboard.  It has made it's way around our house in several different spots and I think has found its home in our breakfast nook since we have five people in our family and only four chairs at the table!
A dresser found on the side of the road redone in white, and stripped of its drawers.  There are 3 baskets that go there, each with an initial.  Those are the "take up" baskets...  I make the rounds around the house some nights and put stuff into the baskets that get left out on floors.  Each kiddo is responsible for taking their baskets up to their rooms and putting their things away.
Have I told you about my obsession with white dishes?
And because I have no shame.  Sadly, this is how our bedroom looks right now.  I love our bed.  I love our bedding.  Not crazy about the rest.  It's on my list, I swear.  I just have three kids and a life and a husband who works nights half the month, so time in there is limited.  Baby steps, right?
My make-up table.  Where you can find my middle daughter most of the time.  In a princess dress, putting on makeup.  Lord help me.

And last but not least...  my computer station.  I know.   It's not much.  One day, when kids start moving out, I'll have a home office and a guest room and a craft room.  Until then, I'm ok with this.  I'm not gonna show you what's under there.  You might not come back!

So that's about all.  My home sweet southern home.  Where life happens!  Where do you live?  I'd love for you to link up!!
